So, who is Patty Eirich, the therapist?
My professional and personal lives have intertwined since graduating college. I attended CSULB and received my BA in Research Psychology. Shortly after receiving my undergraduate degree, I pursued a career in insurance claims processing and litigation while being a wife and a mother for 20 years. My desire to pursue higher education in Psychology never stopped and I enrolled at The Chicago School which had a strong focus on Family Systems Theory and then attended Brandman University which emphasized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I graduated from Brandman University and pursued an internship at Providence Community Services which later became Pathways Community Services.
Pathways Community Services is a Medi-Cal provider for children from toddler to age 18. I provided individual therapy to children at our clinic, at schools and at homes. Several of my clients were in foster care homes. In addition to individual therapy, I provided family therapy and worked alongside social workers and school counselors in support of Wrap Around programs and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Trauma had set in at an early age for most of my clients and I became trained in TF-CBT. In 2017 my husband and I began our own journey of foster care and became legal guardians and then adoptive parents to our son.
When I started, my practice included individual therapy for children and adults and couples counseling. My approach to therapy is eclectic; utilizing CBT, Person-Centered, Mindfulness, Family Systems and Solution Focused modalities. I am trained in EMDR which I also incorporate into my practice.
What drives me professionally?
I grew up in a home and neighborhood of violence when CPS seemed nonexistent, children were blamed for not listening to their parents and adults’ behaviors were dismissed. Despite growing up in a tough environment, I always had hope and wondered why people behaved as they did and were capable of being so cruel to each other. I developed a strong compassion for children and for those who had difficulty helping themselves.
