Introduction to Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health: What To Look For

This workshop provides an overview of mental health needs in early childhood (birth through age 5), signs of impairment and possible reasons for referral to treatment, and common elements in evidence- based treatments for problems in early childhood. Most graduate programs offer only minimal information about mental health in this stage of life, yet most of us work with parents of young children, child or adolescents with younger siblings, and/or adults with trauma in early childhood during the course of our career. Understanding how mental health needs during this time impact the lifespan and when specialized treatment is needed is essential.
